The Iranian New Year is coming

Iranian New Year is approaching and I love the timing very much. The start of the New Year in Iranian calendar is synchronized with the exact moment the Earth finishes the entire circle of rotation around the sun and spring begins. According to the philosophy, we shall renew ourselves as the nature does in spring. I think it is a very sensible reason for having a new year and we do lots of things before and after the event. One of the historic traditions near the Norooz (the Persian name for the new year period) is the celebration the eve of the last Wednesday of the year, which was last Tuesday night. This is the night of joy and celebration and what people do, they make fires on the ground and jump over them, singing and dancing and since I do not know what time, there has been firecrackers going off dominating the atmosphere. This is so much fun.

Just four days is left from this year and one of the things that I m busy with is a complete apartment cleanup. This is another tradition for making things fresh and new. Tehran is a four-season city and you can smell the freshness of spring your window (well, you have to filter out the noise of the street traffic).

Welcome to the blogger front page :)

Seems like a great one..

Life in Iran could get really bad if president bush doesnt think harder this time before starting a war.

Alex,

Don't you mean to say that life could get much harder in Iran if the Iranian Gov't doesn't stop threatening Israel, brandishing the notion of having nuclear arms, and funding terrorist movements elsewhere in the Near East?

Nice blog Channel 4.

Certainly true gunnar, I didnt mean to suggest that Iran isnt the problem. But bush is the reason why the problem is still around.

Do I blame Iran for being a country filled with sick people, or my government (which speaks my language and shares at least some values with me) for not protecting me from Iran?

Alex,

The U.S. gets so much blame these days - the world even manages to blame us for the bad weather - that it's only fair to place the blame on those who are actually culpable - the Iranian Gov't.

:) Fair enough but look to Iraq.

Horrible leader, im glad he is on trial now (would rather see him dead frankly).

But the people of Iraq are suffering now, worse than saddam ever made them. Between 25 and 100 people killed every day. A total of at least 30,000 during the war.

That is my point, bush cant shoot straight. So if we had to go to war with Iran, to take over that horrible government, the people would suffer as a result of bush not being able to run a war properly.

So he should think harder before starting a war: have a strategy for victory, and for protecting the locals.

What's kind of funny is that our western calendar year also starts the exact moment the sun finishes its rotation, it just starts in a different place.

I think spring is a pretty good place to start a year. Much better than the middle of winter.

BAGHDAD, March 27 (Reuters) - Iraq's oil exports are currently running at around 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd) and were at between 1.2 and 1.4 million in recent days, a senior U.S. naval engineer overseeing export facilities said on Monday.
"They're running at around 1.5 (million bpd) now," Captain Mike Sherbak, who is in charge of renovations at the Basra Oil Terminal, told reporters. "It was about 1.2, 1.4 in the last couple of days."

N-fuel centre in Iran
Iran proposes setting up an "international" centre on Iranian soil to provide fuel for the Tehran's controversial nuclear programme, the Iranian embassy in Moscow said, AFP reported.
Iran appeared to reject again a Russian plan for the fuel to be processed in Russia, saying in the embassy's statement that it "cannot make itself dependent on international suppliers."
